2019: A YEAR OF BUILDING RESILIENCE

As we close on another year, KPJR FILMS would like to thank so many organizations, educators, health care and justice professionals for their ongoing support and focus on building an awareness of childhood trauma and resilience. In 2019, KPJR FILMS worked with over 250 national and international partner organizations and supported actions to build trauma-informed communities worldwide. PAPER TIGERS and RESILIENCE screenings, trainings and resources have effectively moved audiences from awareness to action in sectors ranging from education to policy to healthcare to juvenile justice.

The impetus for this ACEs awareness and action was the vision of KPJR Films' Founder and RESILIENCE Producer and Executive Director, Karen Pritzker. In the clip below, Karen Pritzker reflects on the moment when she heard Dr. Vincent Felitti explain childhood trauma and the ACEs study.

Awareness + Action = Resilience

Throughout 2019, RESILIENCE was aired on broadcast TV. Resilience has been aired on PBS in Florida, San Francisco, Iowa and North Carolina. Each broadcast aligned with local non-profit partners to make a statewide impact.

The most recent North Carolina PBS partnership with UNC-TV included the launch of a campaign “Resilience Week.” The broadcast plus the “Resilience Week" campaign prompted thousands to tune into UNC-TV to view RESILIENCE and to galvanize communities to take action whether it is building awareness with film screenings, aligning with policy advocates or motivating individuals to #BeTheOne to make a difference in a child’s life.

RESILIENCE WEEK:
THE IMPACT SNAPSHOT

On Tuesday, November 18th, 2019, tens of thousands of viewers tuned in to the UNC-TV public broadcast of RESILIENCE: The Biology of Stress & the Science of Hope. Produced by KPJR FILMS, the broadcast was part of a series of impact events that anchored RESILIENCE WEEK - A first-of-its-kind North Carolina engagement campaign in partnership with UNC-TV, Prevent Child Abuse North Carolina, The Winer Family Foundation, and Child Trust Foundation.

The week kicked off with a special proclamation by North Carolina state Governor Roy Cooper, who declared ACEs Awareness Week, making North Carolina a leading state in the nationwide movement to raise awareness about healthy communities and build preventative policies and practices around Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs).

A Statewide Twitter Townhall® followed the broadcast, welcoming the participation of over a dozen leading experts across the early childhood trauma and resiliency space. The Townhall drew over 700 social media users to the conversation, who tweeted their questions and comments about the film using #ResilienceWeek, reaching over 1 Million + people.

Resilient Idaho: A Resilience PBS Broadcast

Idaho Public Television recognized Mental Health Awareness Week, October 6-12, with local and national programming that highlights awareness and the resiliency of the human spirit. They focused their efforts on early trauma and resilience by curating and broadcasting programs on mental health including a statewide broadcast of Resilience: The Biology of Stress and the Science of Hope along with a locally produced program, Resilient Idaho: Hope After Trauma and including panels of experts from across the state.

Resilient Idaho: Hope After Trauma, a three panel discussion, was broadcast statewide directly following the documentary and also streamed live on Facebook. It remains on Facebook for all to access at: https://www.facebook.com/idahoptv/videos/2370499656537117/

Both program directed people to resources and three major places for help: The Idaho Suicide Prevention Hotline, Idaho Resilience Project and 211 The Idaho Care Line.

According to Jeff Tucker, Director of Content, Idaho Public Television, these types of efforts are perfect for public media to be involved in. It helps us to better educate our viewers and help the citizens of Idaho. There is an effort to highlight this issue within the health and human services community and this is the perfect time for RESILIENCE to be broadcast.
