A Client’s Perspective on Trauma-informed Care

"Recognizing a person’s unique trauma is the first step in trauma-informed care, and that can only be done with a thorough intake process that is shared with every member of the staff. In Cain’s words, the intake form needs to be referred back to throughout treatment, “not just stapled to the front of a file, never to be seen again.”

Hi Amie,

I'm struggling with the same issues tho in a community. I'm eager to hear how others have implemented ACE & trauma-informed care across agencies or departments. Hopefully others will have some advice. Thanks for your dialogue.

Chris

Hi Chris,

Thank you so much for sharing this powerful article!  I'm seeking to learn how to introduce this concept, i.e., trauma-informed care, coupled with the intake process, to the clinical and administrative staff of the hospital where I work.  Since any kind of major paradigm change will be resisted, I'd appreciate some guidance on how to approach the upper levels of our institution.  Any ideas or suggestions would be most appreciated.  By the way, I work as a Chaplain in a regional hospital --- so, not a lot of "pull" at this point, although my director is fully on-board.

Thank you!

Amie
