"Maxine talked about rock bottom, “I became ever more depressed. I felt fenced in by my faith. After all, we were the pastors of a small congregation. How could I tell them their pastor was a liar? I couldn’t. I felt trapped. I just prayed harder. But it was never enough. I had tried to appease my husband, submit to him, pray and fast for him. He still demanded more, demeaning and insulting me. Screaming at me. All of the verbal abuse broke my spirit...."
