A victim discusses domestic violence (1 min video) - Virginia

"BRCC lecture explores mindset  of abused partner...

"Housden, a facilitator with the Batterers Intervention Program serving a region that includes Rockingham County and Harrisonburg, shared the early 1980s tragedy to illustrate how women who try to leave their abusers are at 75 percent higher risk of being killed than those who stay.

The college invited Housden to speak as part of a series of events this month in observance of Women’s History Month...."

"A student asked Housden who in an abusive relationship needs help the most, the victim or the abuser, to which she replied that both are in need of rehabilitation.

"She often has to shatter the fantasy that another man will save them, Housden said. “There is no knight in shining armor who will save you,” she said. “You have to be your own hero. I had to be my own hero.”
