ACE Overcomers at the Stanislaus County Family Domestic Violence Conference

Connecting with professionals between sessions who are familiar with the effects of domestic violence

Last week, I did a presentation about ACEs science and trauma for 150 people who attended Stanislaus County's 17th Annual Family Domestic Violence Conference in Modesto, CA. The conference participants work in family court, social services, education, law enforcement, and probation.

Dave Lockridge
(L to R) Dave Lockridge; Honorable Linda McFadden of Family Court;  and Dick Monteith, Stanislaus County Supervisor
I explained the effects of trauma, the five sources of anger, and the seven essential questions of every relationship. This presentation is a part of my "Trauma Informed and Beyond” eight-hour seminar for law enforcement officers.

ACE Overcomers has a curriculum called "Building Healthy Life Skills" for high schools, jails, and family courts, as well as a faith-based curriculum, "Overcoming a Difficult Childhood”, which is used across the United States and Canada in rescue missions and churches. I do facilitator training in the ACE Overcomers curriculum across the nation, so if you’re interested in learning more, feel free to contact me.

Dear David Lockridge,

It is always encouraging to learn of progressive programs such as yours in the context of criminal justice and related domains that appreciate ACE's research, trauma informed care, and which provide such meaningful programming.

My own work is dedicated to also helping to sustain and nurture professions who work with traumatized and suffering people. I do this through workshops and a film I have co-produced on secondary trauma and resiliency, who is called "PORTRAITS OF PROFESSIONAL CAREGIVERS:  THEIR PASSION. THEIR PAIN".  See: www.caregiversfilm.com

Perhaps you're also familiar with the fascinating trauma informed work wittin the Kansas City (MO) Police Force through the instructional work of Captain Darren Ivey.  Another related film in addition to CAREGIVERS is a film called "CODE 9 - OFFICER IN NEED OF ASSISTANCE" which was produced by Deborah Ortiz and addresses PTSD and promotes wellness within police forces.

Again, thanks for the information about your program.

With best wishes,

Vic Compher, MSS, LCSW
