Introducing Our Community

Our Community Managers
More and more people are becoming ACE aware, yet in my community, we are often not as aware of each other’s work as we could be. I look forward to using our Atlantic Canada Community ACEs page to connect and support one another, locally, as well as with others elsewhere in Canada. I am bilingual and welcome communications and posts in French.
I live in the Saint John New Brunswick area and am a health professional employed by Horizon Health Network. My role involves providing leadership to the organization in the areas of preventing and reducing the risk of chronic physical and mental illnesses, and promoting the health of the population. The advances in ACEs science (neurobiology, epigenetics and immune function/inflammation) and the ground breaking work of leaders in healthcare and other fields across society has convinced me that this is where, collectively, we must focus our efforts.
Personally, I love many people who have been impacted directly by ACEs, and feel strongly that everyone in our society needs to be ACEs aware and trauma-informed. Healing comes through relationship and each of us can make a positive difference in someone’s life. Ultimately if we unite to support families and individuals, we can transform our communities into safe and resilient places to grow, live, work and play.
Elizabeth Perry
I started my career as an Early Childhood Educator in the 1980s. At that time, I learned the research based importance of providing nurturing, safe, empowering, validating environments for developing children. I connected with those needs personally, as I had been trying to inspire the adults in my life to support me throughout my childhood.
My career path has been diverse, starting in ECE, moving into linguistics then redirecting into business, adding adult education facilitation and language teaching, and finally ending up providing peer support for survivors of childhood trauma. What has made me successful in all my endeavors has been my genuine care, compassion, appreciation, and respect for each of the individuals I have encountered. I have been trying to be the change I want to see in the world for many years, with varying degrees of success.
After learning about the ACE Study in 2014, and having all my prior experience and knowledge once again validated, I have been a champion for ACEs Awareness. In attempting to connect with people in my region, I discovered what seemed to be a number of silos operating independently. My vision for the Atlantic ACEs and TIP Network is for us to connect and build community so we can collaborate to make Nova Scotia, Atlantic Canada, and Canada an ACEs Preventive Nation.
Inviting You!
Again, all are welcome to join our community. We are particularly interested in hearing from others in Canada or along the Canadian border and all others in this worldwide movement.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
