“Bulwark in Revolutionary War, Town in Vermont Faces Heroin Scourge” (news article, March 6) sensationalized a problem that all cities and towns are facing.
Even before Gov. Peter Shumlin’s State of the State address focusing on the heroin epidemic, the Town of Bennington, through its law enforcement efforts, made two successful drug sweeps and several arrests of major drug traffickers. The town implemented a program to capture unused prescription drugs through a drop box at the police station.
The regional school systems have professionals on staff working closely with students to create a safe environment for student growth and development and to offer support to those who are affected by family situations. There have been no reported incidents of heroin use on site in our regional high school.
