We are inviting folks who are a part of the adoption circle: adoptees, birth parents, adoptive parents, siblings of adoptees, or extended family members to write a short story about their experience. Sharing, personal reflections, a piece of the journey… challenges, joys, anecdotes that you may remember. There are so many layers to adoption as a way to build a family. Your story can be any length, however, 300 to 2,000 words is preferable…but we will find a way to include everyone’s stories. And you can share anonymously, come up with a pseudonym, or use your name. If you are looking for more guidelines, remember, it is your personal perspective of adoption and how it may have affected your life, your relationships, your view/definition of family . Perhaps you’d even like to share some advice with others who are a part of the community that shares adoption as part of their life experience. November was National Adoption Month, for those of us who are part of the community of families shaped by adoption, every day is part of our journey. We launched this initiative in November 2024, we have set the deadline for submission of stories as January 15, 2025 taking us into yet another year in the lives of those touched and connected by adoption. The purpose of this compilation of stories: to bring more understanding, connection and yes, perhaps even healing. Understanding for others, understanding for those perhaps contemplating adoption, and healing and insight perhaps, for those telling their story. Submit your story to connecthrulove@gmail.com and also ask any questions, concerns or comments to this email address.
