Hi everyone,
I'm so grateful to be here - a few days in and PACEsConnection already feels like home! Thank you @Carey Sipp for showing me the way, encouraging me to join and contribute.
I am Developmental Trauma (DT) survivor, and for 20+ years I have worked in various corporate HR roles. I have witnessed first hand - first in myself and then others - how a history of childhood abuse and neglect can interfere later on in life with performance, wellbeing and progression at work.
Of course, that might have been just me and a small number of co-workers. An isolated experience - although trauma survivors are famous for thinking it's just them. OR it might be a much bigger topic affecting many other survivors that we're just not talking about yet, in the same way no one was talking about neurodiversity or mental health at work 30 years ago.
Despite my best efforts I have not been able to find any data or ongoing research exploring the intersection of chronic stress in childhood/adolescence and quality of adult work lives (please point me to it if you're aware of any!). It's definitely something I would love to explore with other fellow adult survivors, HR professionals, academics or health professionals who might have picked up on this in their therapy rooms. If a history of childhood trauma indeed prevents adult survivors to thrive in the workplace, then we have a huge opportunity to increase awareness and find ways to overcome these unique challenges, for ourselves and others.
Please let me know what you think! If there is an interest in this topic I'm happy to set up a dedicated PACEs community and get things started!
All the best from London, UK,
Adina
