In August, Partner for Healing explored treatment.
We focused on several common treatment dilemmas and shared ideas for healing. In the first post we examined Is the Push for Change Making Your Treatment Less Effective? As treaters we are constantly under pressure to fix that kid- sometimes by our own staff! However, trying to change someone may not be our most effective approach.
In the second post this month we looked at another version of the same dilemma in Could Our Treatment Be Making Clients Worse? Again, when we try to encourage our clients to be positive when they are depressed we may be pushing them further into the depression.
Sometimes our clients seem so empty, with no solid center. They flow with the winds of whoever they are near. In these cases we have to think about How to Create a Person. Step by step we can help the client fill in the gaps left by a traumatic childhood.
The final post of August consider that difficult time, discharge. What can we do to stand beside our clients as they struggle with the imperfect options that are open to them? How to Help Kids with Discharge gives us some ideas.
In September we are going to look at some stories of every day treatment, each containing choice points for trauma-informed care. We hope you will join our community at Partner for Healing. See you there!
