Documentary: If Images Could Fill Our Empty Spaces

Alice Driver completed this documentary to produce a journalistic version of her PhD research. In a Q-and-A in Vela, where she's a staff writer, she said this about the project that looks at the interface between violence and photography in Ciudad Juarez, which was the most violent city in the world in 2010:

I was driven to begin working on the documentary because I wanted to understand how art – literature, photography, film – could move us to care about places and people we had never known. I also wanted to explore our reliance on images, the demands we place on them to represent the truth.

I think it's stunning evidence of the challenges of turning around a world of ACEs so ubiquitous as to be inked into our cultural wallpaper.
