Down East schools turn to brain science to fix rural education [bangordailynews.com]

Each of them took a side and lifted. From the back of a minivan, Milbridge Elementary School students Spencer Bickford and CJ Lovejoy carried an armchair into the school’s art room one day in November. They hauled it to the corner where a mental health counselor was soon to set up shop each week.

The counselor is one part of a new program that aims to improve the odds for students in this rural, coastal town and two others in Washington County, which jockeys for the title of Maine’s poorest.
