Exposure to prenatal stress linked to obesity risk in adulthood

This is an excerpt from AAP SmartBrief, June17, 2014:
Exposure to prenatal stress linked to obesity risk in adulthood
An analysis of data on nearly 120,000 young men in Denmark found that those born to mothers exposed to stressful situations, such as the death of a close relative or husband, while pregnant were more likely to be overweight than men born to women without such exposure.

The findings were published in the journal PLOS ONE: Severe Maternal Stress Exposure Due to Bereavement before, during and after Pregnancy and Risk of Overweight and Obesity in Young Adult Men: A Danish National Cohort Study
