Four Ways To Help Employees Navigate After Trauma [forbes.com]

As employers and business leaders start welcoming employees back to work, some might see a slight shift in their team’s overall temperament and demeanor. While many are excited to get back in the workplace, others may be more tentative and reserved. A large part of our population is still dealing with the reality and repercussions of Covid-19. And given how traumatic it was—and still is for many people—it’s no surprise that people dealt with its staggering impact in many different ways.

Employees who are back at work (and even those who are still remote!) may be experiencing strong emotions around the pandemic and struggling to focus on their work. In some cases, they may even feel hopeless, demoralized, or depressed. Others may feel guilt for living through the pandemic or anxiety from not knowing what the future holds which can result in feelings of trauma or grief.

If you have team members struggling with these types of emotions, it’s good to offer opportunities for them to regain a sense of confidence and personal safety. In my experience, trauma-informed care and other trauma-sensitive strategies results in a more desirable and safe work environment.
