The hearing will begin at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday at the Lewis Goodhouse Wellness Center at United Tribes Technical College in Bismarck.
Heitkamp’s office said the hearing builds on a series of congressional briefings she initiated in May in Washington, D.C., to raise awareness among members of Congress about the lifelong impacts that adverse childhood experiences have on Native American youth and tribal communities, and to examine strategies to address it.
The hearing will include tribal leaders, mental and behavioral health experts and officials from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and Bureau of Indian Affairs to explain trauma and the long-term impacts it can have on individuals and communities.
