Discover the Starlings Community Peer Library: A Unique Resource for Young People Facing the Stigma of Parental Substance Use
At Starlings Community, we know that growing up with the stress and stigma of a parent's substance use can make a young person feel isolated, overwhelmed, and misunderstood. That's why we created the Starlings Community Peer Library—a space built for, and by, individuals who have walked a similar path. Our Peer Library offers resources that uplift, educate, and empower young people, caregivers, and community members to navigate these often-hidden experiences with support and resilience.

What Is the Peer Library?
The Starlings Peer Library is a unique, online resource hub dedicated to providing resources, stories, and tools to help young people understand and process the complex feelings they face. From guides on mental health and self-care to storytelling from others with similar experiences, each resource in the library is curated to be empathetic, non-judgmental, and youth-centered.
We discuss topics that are often hidden:
- Caregiving for a parent with substance use challenges
- Witnessing a parent withdrawal from Alcohol
- All About Stress
An way more!
The Peer Library is for anyone impacted by a parent's substance use or stigma related to it. Whether you’re a young person seeking community, a caregiver wanting to learn more, or an ally looking to better support friends and family, you’ll find something here that speaks to you. Our goal is to validate experiences, increase hope and sense of belonging, reduce the stigma surrounding these experiences and provide meaningful ways for young people to feel less alone and more understood.
Why Is This Important?
One of the biggest barriers young people face is feeling isolated or fearful about reaching out. Many don’t know where to turn or how to voice their experiences, let alone find resources that truly reflect their realities. The Peer Library aims to change this narrative by giving them a safe, accessible, and compassionate place to learn, grow, and feel connected to others who understand their journey.
