To prevent and treat ACEs, psychological trauma, and traumatic stress, we all need a basic education in emotions, with skills and tools to safely work with them. Thank goodness more and more schools are incorporating Social Emotional Learning (SEL) into their curricula.
Parents, however, need education, skills, and tools to understand their children's emotions, not to mention their own. It's been a passion of mine to share emotion education with the public through my writing.
This past February, I was so delighted that Random House published my book It's Not Always Depression: Working the Change Triangle to Listen to the body, Discover Core Emotions, and Connect to Your Authentic Self. The book provides an easy, accessible, no-jargon, emotion education for all people who want it. Based on the science of emotions from Darwin to current times, the book shares stories from my life and AEDP psychotherapy practice and has exercises that people can practice on their own, with partners or in groups to build their emotional resilience.
Last month, the American Book Fest names It's Not Always Depression the 2018 Winner for Best Book in the category of Health: Mental health & Psychology. Click here to read the press release. This is such wonderful validation that emotion education, as I have come to believe, is a public health imperative!
I am also posting now to let the ACEs community know that Amazon Kindle is running a special until approximately December 22nd. The book is currently available for $1.99. This offer is for US residents only.
Sending everyone in this wonderful community warm wishes for a good end to 2018. Here's to growing our and the world's collective emotional health, resilience, and well-being in 2019.
Warmly,
Hilary
PS: Please know I write a blog to educate the general public on emotions, trauma, and healing. Once a month I send an article. There are also FREE resources on my website: https://www.hilaryjacobshendel.com/
