Building Community Resilience in DC
RSVP & join us to discuss local work to build a resilient nation in DC!
On Thursday, April 19th, Building Community Resilience (BCR) will convene local partners - including from DC's Chief Resilience Officer from the Office of the City Administrator, the Early Childhood Innovation Network, legislative staff from the DC Council Committee on Health, Mary’s Center, and others - to describe local resilience work being done through programs, practice change and policy efforts. BCR seeks to improve the health and life outcomes of children, families, and communities by addressing the ‘Pair of ACEs’ – adverse childhood experiences in the context of adverse community environments. By aligning systems large and small, the BCR process supports co-created solutions that enable communities to not only ‘bounce back’ in the face of adversity, but bounce forward. Read more about BCR in DC & our work to inform DC’s Resilience Strategy.

BCR Background:
Building Community Resilience is a national collaborative and network – based at the Redstone Global Center for Prevention and Wellness at the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health – that seeks to improve the health and life outcomes of children, families, and communities. Teams in five cities across the country are using the BCR process and tools to help their communities not only ‘bounce back’ in the face of adversity, but bounce forward. Twice yearly, BCR convenes our teams from around the country to share and learn from one another in making systems change to address the ‘Pair of ACEs’ – adverse childhood experiences in the context of adverse community environments. To learn more about BCR, watch our "Two Years into Our Journey" video. Building Community Resilience is led by Wendy Ellis, DrPH (c), BCR Project Director, with Bill Dietz, MD, PhD, Chair and Director of the Redstone Global Center for Prevention and Wellness.
