Live From Walla Walla, WA

I just finished my third screening of Jamie Redford's documentary film, Paper Tigers.  This third time around was special, as I was watching from Whitman College in Walla Walla, WA, home of Lincoln High School, which is featured in the film.

After spending the day on a tour of the community, learning about the various trauma-informed services expanding throughout Walla Walla and surrounding communities in SE Washington, watching the film in it's home town was the perfect end to an inspiring day.  I got a chance to meet some of the leaders responsible for bringing "the movement" to the community, and got to see some of the programs in action, like Jubilee Leadership AcademyTierra Vida, an "intentional community," and Vista Hermosa.  Even their local apple orchard has completed trauma-informed training.  I also got to meet some of the "silent partners" in the movement, who have been working hard to take care of others in the community for over 3 decades.

Tomorrow morning, their 2-day conference Beyond Paper Tigers kicks off, featuring local leaders sharing the latest on brain science, emotions and regulation, triggers, resilience, and information for administrators.  Stay tuned for stories about the community and the conference, and you can follow ACEs Connection Network on Twitter for ongoing updates throughout the day @acestoohigh.
