"People in Shasta County report significantly higher rates of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) when compared with survey results from other parts of the country, according to a survey conducted in the spring of 2012. Research has shown that the more adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) a person is exposed to, the greater likelihood of emotional struggles, risky health behaviors, social problems and chronic disease. Those issues translate to a lower quality of life, a shorter life expectancy and higher mental and physical health care costs...."
