My Interest in ACES Too High

Congratulations!  I love the idea of ACES Too High!  I am the Executive Director of the Institute for Public Health (IPH) in the Graduate School of Public Health at San Diego State University.  The mission of the IPH is to serve as a bridge between academics and public health practice and to participate in community engaged scholarship (CBPR, applied research, translational research) with community partners to improve the population's health.  One of the most frequent requests we receive from community partners is for more information about violence in its many forms and the short and long term effects of violence on the health of populations and communities. A large proportion of our community-based research and evaluation activities are in this content area, and I am a frequent speaker on the topic of violence and its effects on the public's health.

I think we can always do more together than individually.  I'm hoping that I may find expertise in the list to address the concerns that our communities identify and to help with policy, system, and environmental changes that will bring the issue of violence and health more fully to the attention of everyone and anyone who might be able to recognize the magnitude of the problem and help with solutions.
