It’s official!
The Walla Walla City Council kicked off our month-long celebration of resilience with a proclamation announcing ”October is Children’s Resilience Month”. Representing the Children’s Resilience Initiative team, Teri Barila, Linda Brown, Scott Bieber, and Jim Dumont received the proclamation on September 24, 2014 at the city council session. Mayor Jerry Cummins urged all residents to become informed about childhood trauma and how to create resilience.
In thanking the city council for its recognition, Teri presented each city council member, the city attorney and the city manager with a “Resilience Rocks” tattoo, which put a resilience smile on all faces! The tattoo will be featured during the October 11th Community Resilience Treasure Hunt downtown. We hope to see tattoos on hundreds of faces and hands that day as children and parents move through the Treasure Hunt!
Check out our new temporary tattoo! If you show up between 10 am and 1 pm October 11 at Land Title Plaza downtown, you can get your own!
That's when we'll start the treasure hunt to find the different parts of Resilience tucked away in downtown Walla Walla.
Other celebrations for this month:
- Head Start program director and trauma expert Avis Smith will do a training with community providers on October 8th and 9th.
- We'll be at the Farmers Market every Saturday in October for great resources and resilience building tips.
- CRI will be downtown on Halloween too! We have some extra fun (and educational) treats to pass out!
- We'll be appearing in the Walla Walla Union Bulletin Marquee, in letters from the School Board (and other various flyers coming home in kids' backpacks), and other local networks and publications.
- During October, CRI will also be presenting at the Rotary Club, hosting family fun nights at local elementary schools with resilience games, and appearing on the Jim Bock radio talk show.
