Partnership helps domestic violence victims and their pets - KENTUCKY

"I think a lot of folks only get the top layers of what happens," said Marta Miranda, President and CEO of The Center for Women and Families.

After nearly 40 years of working with victims of domestic violence, Miranda says has seen some things that would make you cry. 

"We have had dogs with throats cut, dogs killed," Miranda said....

"That's why The Center for Women and Families and the Kentucky Humane Society created the Safe Haven Program.

"We keep the pet for 24, 48, 72 hours -- whatever is needed," Miranda said....

"We've been able to save a lot of animals this way and to help a lot of victims leave abusive relationships," said Andrea Blair with The Kentucky Humane Society...."
