Persistence

Being tenacious is surely a necessary strength when we are trying to change attitudes and behaviors.  Having the persistence and patience to stand in the gap for children is a thankless job.  Yet, we must if we hope to have children grow into adults ready to take the reigns of responsibility in next generations.

Every day, children come through the doors of child care facilities and homes into the care of people with whom there is most likely no familial relationship.  Yet, for those ten or twelve hours each day in the heart and mind of the child, the caregiving adult is the parent.  The younger the child the more significant the caregiving adult is to the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual development of the child.

We child caregivers must accept and embrace our duty to love these children.  We must change ourselves and our practices so that we do no harm and offer children the affection and skills that build resilience.

The saying is, "Be kinder than necessary because everyone is fighting some battle."  Learning about ACEs teaches you that if nothing else.
