Full-term children performed better in cognitive tests than their premature counterparts, possibly due to reduced brain connectivity associated with preterm birth, according to a study published in the Journal of Pediatrics. However, researcher Luke Schneider said that these cognitive deficits "seem to be amenable to improvement depending on the environment the child grows up in, particularly as an infant.
