On a summer evening, after shucking shellfish in a factory all day, Yakelin Soto Ortiz rides the bus to Olneyville, walks into Clinica Esperanza and takes a seat in an exam room. When two doctors enter, she explains in Spanish that she has pains in her hands and how she can't make a fist with one.
"Aqui?" Brown University medical student Emily Viggiano repeats, pointing to parts of Ortiz' hands while asking if it hurts "here?"
