The Regional Academies hosted in Ashland and Akron last week -- The Long-term Health Effects of Violence, Abuse, and Trauma: Implications of the ACE Study for Healthcare Practice and Public Policy -- in collaboration with the Academy on Violence and Abuse (AVA) were a great success. Nearly 600 people participated during the two days and heard presentations from national experts on violence and abuse.
Dr. Vincent Felitti kicked off the events with a presentation about the ACE Study, followed by three other AVA faculty who presented on related topics. We also heard from area providers, consumer/survivors and local leaders including Dr. Mark Hurst, medical director of the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction sevices. The program for the conferences is attached:Regional%20Academy%20Program%20for%20April%2016.pdf
Thanks to all of the individuals and organizations who helped to make the events successful. These include: The Margaret Clark Morgan Foundation, Mental Health and Recovery Board of Ashland County, Samaritan Regional Health System, Akron Children's Hospital, St. Thomas Hospital, Northeast Ohio Medical University and others. Please see the program for a complete list of partners.
The AVA is eager to work with local communities in Ohio and other states to provide similar academies. For more information about this please contact the AVA at info@AVAHealth.org.
