Sept 2012 new members come from across the U.S., Germany, New Zealand, UK; include Amherst College pre-med students, social workers, educators.

During the last half of September, 25 people joined ACEsConnection. (Yes, I'm doing catch-up on bragging about our new members!) Thanks to you all for joining, and we look forward to your participation.

Brent Robins, Des Moines, IA, director of the Safe School Certification Program, is interested in the latest research on child development and how it relates to adult functioning.

Mary Clare Reitz, Cooperstown, NY, is getting her master's degree in social work. She's a first-year student.

Kristin Petrya, New Orleans, LA, is an intern at New Orleans Children's Advocacy Center.

Celeste Bodner, Seaside, OR, is director of FosterClub, the national network for young people in foster care.

Donna Shipley, Paw Paw, MI, is a personal computer repair technician, and her interest in ACE concepts is personal.

Shelley Walsh, Hamburg, Germany, is a teacher.

Sharil Williams, Cody, WY, is clinical director and a licensed professional counselor at Wyoming Recovery.   

Christina Brazell, Fort Mohave, AZ, a social worker, is an in-home service provider for Catholic Charities Community Services of Arizona. She works with at-risk families every day.

Karen Moon lives in Sunderland, UK. Her interest in ACEs is oriented in caring for her son.

Christina Herrero, Scarsdale, NY, a pre-med student at Amherst College, took a biochemistry class taught by Richard Aronson and Pat O'Hara, where she learned about how ACEs cause biological changes, and how the medical field "can adapt with these findings to better support and address these challenges". She also interned at Westchester Children's Association last summer and learned about the long-term consequences of ACEs.

Jessica Mueller, Amherst, MA, a pre-med student at Amherst College, also took the biochemistry class, which she thought "highlighted the importance of continuity of care from infancy to adulthood and the need for physicians from different branches of medicine to collaborate".

Pat O'Hara, Amherst, MA, is a chemistry professor and dean of new students at Amherst College. She co-taught the biochemistry class with Richard Aronson. 

Shennon Lu, Amherst, MA, was one of the students in the Aronson-O'Hara biochemistry class at Amherst College where students learned about the link between ACEs and biological changes.

Cynthia Skow, Seattle, WA, is a forensic social worker and clinical director at The Defender Association. Her interest in ACEs is in implications for criminal justice and re-entry programming for ex-prisoners. 

Stella Jo Locke, Moreno Valley, CA, is a registered nurse at Kaiser Riverside and a student.

Robin Shearer, Auckland, NZ, is chief executive of Te Pou. She's interested in how ACEs affect workforce development.   

Carol Crumpacker, Lincoln, NE, a psychologist, is agency director of the Child Guidance Center.

Emily Hershenson, Washington, DC, is a psychotherapist.

Donald Cavanaugh, Lake Worth, FL, is a consultant on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues for Tri-Angle Consulting LGBT.    

Alex Ryzy-Ryski, Pineland, SC, is self-employed in the product development field, and his interest in ACEs is in  "exploring non-agression principles in society".

Pam Sanders, Blue Springs, MO, is school director at the Gillis Center, and is "working to become ACES free".

Peter Choate, Alberta, Calgary, Canada, is an assistant professor of social work and a clinical social worker at Mount Royal University. He's interested in ACEs for use in clinical work, and to teach other clinicians.

Jaime Sotis, Monterey, MA, is human rights coordinator at Alliance for Special Needs/Leander House. She hopes to work as a trauma-informed mental health counselor some day. She notes: "I also have a high ACE score and I'm learning a lot about my self through the ACE's research that's been done which is phenomenal and amazing!"

Greg Emil, Austin, TX, is an information tech, and his interest in ACEs is personal.
