"Traumatic early childhood experiences put more than half of all adult Iowans at an increased risk for poor physical or mental health, according to a study released this morning.
"The survey asked respondents whether they had experienced eight types of child abuse or household dysfunction.
"The findings: As the frequency of adverse childhood experiences increases, so does the likelihood that an individual will struggle as an adult with conditions ranging from depression to heart disease.
"One in five Iowa adults reported three or more traumas before the age of 18, according to the survey...."
