Hello PACES Connection Community,
A large coalition of violence prevention organizations managed to pass AB 28 last week. It is a historic bill would create a first-in-the-nation tax on the gun industry to generate $160M annually for gun violence prevention and school safety programs. The advocates are mobilizing all possible resources to encourage Governor Newsom to sign the bill.
If you're able to support the gun violence prevention advocates in getting this bill passed, the call to action is to send a message of support for this bill to the Governor's Office here. Select "an active bill" from the "questions or concerns" tab and then select "AB 28 - Firearms and ammunition - excise tax" under the "specific bill" tab."
A fact sheet about AB 28 is attached. The latest update is that the bill is now on the Governor's desk, as of last week, and the advocates are hearing that he's considering a veto, so the field is doing an all-out press to convenience him to sign it. On the grassroots side, the time to send messages to his office is now. There is also going to be a rally this Thursday (9/21) on the steps of the capitol at 1:30pm - the advocates and supporters will then march over to the Governor's office to hand deliver letters of support. If you're in the Yolo County area, and are able to attend the event, the link to register is below:
