There are many possible conferences to attend with exciting topics, interesting keynote speakers, and different options for meeting continuing educational requirements. What makes Dr. Covington’s conference stand out?
It is built on immersive learning, a model she has been using long before virtual reality and remote training entered our lives. Generally this type of learning includes elevated engagement, realistic experiences, and opportunities to practice and apply new skills. Check, check, and check!
Your core treatment intervention, chosen at registration, is delivered over a day and a half by one or more approved certified trainers. This allows you to experience the curriculum as a client would, engaging in the activities as a group member, to develop a deeper sense of emotional responses – both potential clients’ and your own. While the program materials are designed for group work, the therapeutic exercises can be adapted for use with individuals.
The trainers and your experience in the workshops will provide therapeutic tools and ideas on how YOU can implement them. Given the nature of this work – addition, trauma, incarceration, recovery, reintegration – and the roles of attendees – counselors, therapists, clinical supervisors, correctional professionals, program administrators, it is essential that those facilitating the programming have addressed their own responses to the topics and that the experience of those receiving the services is understood by all.
“I could not have started teaching this without that in-person training.
Both personally and professionally I am taking away a lot!”

There are studies and research about learning and forgetting, and in general, without intentional repetition or immediate utilization, much is forgotten within a day, more within a week, and most within a month. Immersive, interactive trainings that engage all human senses are more likely to have effective outcomes.
