When parents and communities are squeezed, their young children pay the price. How can we do better?
California Newsreel's acclaimed new documentary series, The Raising of America: Early Childhood and the Future of Our Nation, explores how a strong start for all our kids leads to a healthier, more prosperous and more equitable nation.
All five episodes, including “Wounded Places: Tackling Childhood PTSD in America’s Shell-Shocked Cities,” can now be watched online (free) until Nov. 30th at www.raisingofamerica.org.
The series interweaves stories of families with scientific discoveries illustrating how a child’s earliest experiences and surroundings shape the developing brain, building the foundations for lifelong emotional, intellectual and social development, even physical health - for better and for worse.
The companion website also includes interactives, discussion guides, toolkits and other resources that can help change the conversation by asking what can – and should – organizations, municipalities, states and the nation do to better assure the conditions all young children need to thrive. The conversation is also taking place on Twitter, #RaisingOfAmerica
