Research shows an undeniable link between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and socioeconomic crises, such as poverty, crime, poor educational outcomes, chronic illness, behavioral health problems and more.
Through collaboration within the human services, community restoration, healthcare, educational and criminal justice sectors, Wisconsin is at the forefront of the trauma informed care (TIC) movement. That's why Milwaukee is host site for a large conference Sept. 26-28, 2018.
About the Event
If you work in any human serving capacity, this conference is for you. If you want to understand how a city like Milwaukee can heal from generational and historical trauma, it’s for you, too.
Our time together begins with a Community Gathering on Race and Trauma on Wed. evening at the Fiserv Forum (new home of the Milwaukee Bucks) and continues with five Keynotes and 50 workshops on Thurs. and Fri. at the Wisconsin Center.
Community Gathering on Race and Trauma – Fiserv Forum (Bucks Arena)

Join leaders from Milwaukee’s social justice, advocacy and faith-based communities for a community gathering. The new Fiserv Forum is at the heart of the city’s revitalization and so it’s fitting we should gather there to begin two days of Healing Trauma. Free and open to the public (ticket required).

- L. Song Richardson presents “The Impact of Implicit Racial Bias on Communities.”
- Dr. Bruce D. Perry presents “A Relational Approach to Working with Traumatized and Maltreated Children.”
- Dr. Kenneth Ginsburg presents “The Importance of Resilience-based, Strength-Focused Communication and Expectations for Young People.”
Conference Day 2 Keynote Speakers
Fri., Sept. 28
- Dr. Rob Anda and Laura Porter present “Understanding ACEs: Building Self-Healing Communities.”
- Dr. Harold S. Koplewicz presents “Countering Fear and Hatred: Helping Children Cope in an Uncertain Era.”
Breakout Sessions Thurs./Fri.
Breakout sessions that focus on emerging and best practices in education, law enforcement, health care, and child welfare can be expected, as can breakout sessions from Midwest ACEs groups.
