I'm a programmer and I like to teach students. I teach maths, science and a little bit of programming. I often go to an orphanage and try to teach whatever I have. I have always been in the physical class but today for that first I taught students online. One of the orphanages in Texas managed online classes for the children and I had a great experience with those students.
Here, I'm sharing my experience with the students:
1) Online teaching is way difficult
Honestly, online teaching is way more difficult than offline teaching. I couldn't see just a few students on the small screen on my laptop. So, I found it difficult to make a bond with children. But the good part is that I already took several classes over there and students knew me and I had also remembered many of them.
2) I asked what they wanted to study
In online classes, the best way to keep students interested in the topic is by teaching something that they want to study. I taught them about computer systems and binary numbering systems so, in this class, I continued teaching them about the binary to decimal. I believe they enjoyed it!
3) Teach less, talk more!
This is the best thing I learned during my online class. Just after starting the class, I found they were getting bored. So, I started talking about movies like Avenger, Fast and Furious, and other latest releases. The response on this topic was tremendous and somewhere between I taught them about the binary to decimal.
So, these are the three major points I noted during my first online class. If you have any suggestions for me then do share. I would be glad to hear from you...
