Traumatic childhood experiences may have lasting effect on blood vessels

This is an excerpt from AAP SmartBrief, May 23, 2014:

Traumatic childhood experiences may have lasting effect on blood vessels
U.S. researchers followed 221 healthy teens and young adults and found that those who experienced at least two adverse events during their childhood had higher levels of blood pressure and blood vessel stiffness compared with peers who were unexposed to such events. The study, published in the journal Hypertension, showed that early exposure to traumatic events was associated with increased levels of plasma endothelin-1, which constricts blood vessels.
