T he unthinkable has occurred in our city: three mothers throwing their infant children out of windows in the space of three months.

We can and must do better if we hope to prevent future horrors.

Maternal mental illness is common and appears to be the most likely explanation for these horrific incidents. Estimated rates of depression among pregnant and postpartum women range between 5% and 25%
