United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey is funding a four-part trauma series of college courses (graduate or undergraduate) leading to a certificate in Trauma Studies in Infancy and Early Childhood from Saint Joseph’s University as well as a Trauma Certification from the Institute for Family Professionals.
A new cohort will begin this January! The first course in the series is EDU 244/644 Socio-Emotional Development and Motor Development in Early Childhood. Attached to this post, please find the syllabus and a United Way scholarship application for this first courses in the trauma series.
15 Scholarships will be awarded that include: Tuition, Books, Dinner and Parking/Transportation Reimbursement (Septa Tokens, Parking Garage or Street Parking receipts) and Dinner at each class. In order to qualify for the scholarship, you must currently be employed at an Early Childhood Agency/Professional Organization or Early Childhood/Childcare Program and already have 9 college credits (see Section 5 in application for details). Also, applicants MUST have their own email address.

Class Starts: January 21, 2015
Class Ends: May 6, 2015 (Final Exam)
No Class: March 11, 2015 (Spring Break)

- Application Deadline: Wednesday, November 26, 2014
- Application Submission: Applications must be submitted both by email and by regular mail (one signed copy) with copies of transcript(s) by 5:00 PM Wednesday, November 26, 2014. FAXED applications will not be considered. Note: If you are selected to receive a scholarship, OFFICIAL transcripts will be required by Friday, 12/19/14.
- Application Notification: Monday, December 1, via email.
NOTE: After you download the application, you may notice some strange formatting (e.g. bigger font sizes in certain sections). If “strange formatting” appears on your application when you submit, it will not be a consideration in the scholarship selection process.
