In the fall of 2011, I founded a state-wide network to bring together those entities working on trauma. I thought I would post the rationale for the network I wrote last fall, and then the agenda for our next meeting, and maybe minutes and such. If anyone has feedback on what we're doing, experience that would inform our process, resources on how best to formulate policy, etc. I would appreciate hearing it.
A major goal for the network is to work with medical providers on trauma education and to eventually get trauma screening into primary practice, with a strong referral system for treatment.
The rationale is posted below:
Untreated Trauma and Chronic Disease Network Rationale
There are many state agencies and non-profit organizations in Vermont working on issues related to trauma, yet the work is not coordinated. An organized network will identify areas of overlap and where there are gaps in services. From that information, we can identify common objectives that will further the work of all the players in the field.
Some possible goals for the network:
- Enhanced connectivity among the network participants will lead to new relationships, expanded knowledge of the field and of each other’s work;
- Greater alignment and coordination of advocacy work by the participants and enhanced access to decision-makers;
- Integration of trauma prevention, intervention and treatment objectives in tangible projects through-out the state and within the work of participant agencies/organizations and;
- New collaborations among network participants will lead to significant gains in prevention, intervention and treatment of trauma.
Key challenges to address:
- That participants get sufficient benefit and value from the time they spend on the Network;
- As the Network evolves, the goals are updated so that they are always clear and purposeful;
- The Network must be flexible and evolve in response to participants’ needs.
