I was excited in 2008 about my introduction to the world of childhood acquired trauma and the Adverse Childhood Experience Study. Then I realized that the incredible information made available to us through the ACE Study was not being effectively utilized. The need was great, but not available resources.
My background was that of an ACE Victim when I started. Through long study and deep thinking, I began to see a pathway for healing. In the past few years, the phrase "Emotion has no language" began to show up. Simon Sinek is a popular business consultant who used the phrase in a business context. Then the work of Lisa Feldman Barrett started showing up regularly. She discussed the Classical view of psychology and emotion in her publications and a new model focused on a systems view of the brain, body and the external world. As I delve into the work she cites for innovative thinking colleagues, I am once again hopeful that we can find a path to healing. But we need to learn a language of healing concepts, a phrase she describes as how we learn about the world as children, and use those concepts to predict the world we face.
Information is available for us to discuss, and I would like to ask how many readers are up to learning new ideas and exploring them. Dr. Barrett introduces readers to the brains world of Affect, Interoception, Body Budgets, Concepts, Prediction, Prediction Error and the balance required to achieve and attain health holistically. This change in approach has been available for over 40 years but is just sharpening focus and spreading slowly.
Are we open to discussing new approaches?
