Many discussions and debates around race claim to adopt a color-blind approach, intending to treat everyone equally. But equality is not the same as equity. And many claims to color-blindness nevertheless subtly reinforce the central tenet of white-body supremacy: that the white body is the norm, and the standard against which all other bodies are to be measured.
In this eye-opening audio session, renowned expert on race and trauma Resmaa Menakem shares why responses such as “I don’t see color” fall short. As you listen, you’ll gain valuable insights on how to tune in to the natural wisdom of your body, how to stay grounded in challenging situations, and how to engage in tough conversations around race with empathy and courage.
“Don’t try to get anyone to think well of you,” says Resmaa. “Insead, act well. Bring the best of yourself to each moment, make mistakes, and cultivate repair. When you do this consistently, you won’t have to chase after anyone’s trust or respect. You’ll have naturally earned them.” RESMAA MENAKEMHEALER, NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR, TRAUMA SPECIALISTResmaa Menakem, MSW, LICSW, SEP, is a therapist with decades of experience, currently in private practice in Minneapolis, Minnesota, specializing in trauma, body-centered psychotherapy, and violence prevention.
