Part 4 of 8-Part Webinar Series: Substance Abuse, Trauma, and Domestic Violence
Women often begin using alcohol or other drugs as a result of traumatic life events, such as past physical or sexual abuse (Ashley et al., 2003; Weiss et al., 2003). Additionally, a large percentage of women in substance abuse treatment programs have experienced physical and/or sexual abuse (with percentages ranging from 30% to more than 90%, Finkelstein et al., 2004). This webinar describes trauma-informed strategies to support survivors who have experienced trauma stemming from sexual assault and substance use.
