The Arizona House of Representatives Committee on Health will hear presentations on “Overcoming Adverse Childhood Experiences: Creating Hope for a Healthier Arizona.” The panel presentation is as part of a multi-step process in the consideration of legislation (H.R. 2198) to establish an ACEs Study Committee that is expected to include a yet-to-be scheduled stakeholder meeting with the House leadership.
Vinny Chulani, MD, Section Chief, Adolescent Medicine and Medical Director, Homeless Youth Outreach Program at Phoenix Children's Hospital and Jessica Nicely, CEO/Founder of Winged Hope Family Advocacy Foundation are the two presenters for the Health Committee session.
Stanton provided this background on the presenters and their remarks: “Dr. Chulani will briefly talk about the science of ACEs/toxic stress, followed by comments from an Arizona ACE Consortium member, Jessica Nicely. Jessica authored the book, All My Friends Are Zeros: My Secret to Overcoming Adverse Childhood Experiences, and speaks frequently about her experience growing up in a family with multiple ACEs.”
