The Shades of Blue Project is partnering with UT Health and other community organizations for an event that will provide attendees in the health profession (clinical providers, educators, social workers, counselors, and researchers) with information on providing compassionate maternal, perinatal, and postpartum care to women from marginalized communities.
Objectives:
- To identify unique stressors for women of color.
- To understand why doulas are a necessary part of collaborative, culturally sensitive, trauma informed care.
- To understand the role of bias and systemic racism in achieving reproductive health equity.
- To identify ways to use a more empathetic approach in listening and responding to women.
- To effectively address birth trauma and provide beneficial postpartum mental health care.
- To identify maternal mental health issues in women of color after infant loss.
- To describe how to incorporate INSPIRE, a newly learned therapeutic module, into everyday practice.
- To prepare health professionals to become advocates for Women of Color and their maternal health.
