Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are stressful or traumatic experiences, including abuse, neglect and a range of exposure to events such as witnessing family violence, or growing up with substance abuse, mental illness, parental discord, or crime in the home. ACEs are strongly related to development and prevalence of a wide range of health problems throughout the life-span.
At this Fifth Annual We Can't Wait Conference, presenters will focus on evidence based practices, protective factors and interventions to manage trauma, improve resiliency and social and emotional competencies, repair relationships between children and caregivers, support foster families, improve school readiness, reduce physical and mental illness and support caregivers.
Attendees will hear from experts who are currently engaged in improving the odds for children and families. Expect rich discussions, updates on research and treatment findings, and experiential breakout sessions with hands-on methods to implement new interventions in your practice and your programs.
Attendees should be able to:
* Explore the associations between adverse childhood experiences and later-life health and well being
* Examine nurturing and protective factors for families with alcohol and substance abuse, violence, or criminal justice involvement
* Integrate the core principles of neurodevelopment and traumatology utilizing the Neurosequential Model ® of Therapeutics (NMT)
* Connect innovative, promising and evidence-based practices to the risk, safety, and protective factors highlighted in the ACE study
* Identify implications for partnerships between healthcare, education, behavioral health and child welfare professionals to address adverse childhood experiences, improve the odds, and promote child wellbeing
