Capitol Hill briefing: Right From the Start—Early Childhood and a Lifetime of Health

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation invites you to attend a bipartisan policy briefing, hosted in collaboration with the Congressional Baby Caucus, for congressional staff and key stakeholders. The briefing will focus on how early childhood experiences, both positive and toxic, have a profound impact on health and learning over one’s lifetime. Fan Tait, MD, FAAP, Associate Executive Director, Department of Child Health and Wellness, American Academy of Pediatrics Jonna Burns, parent and participant in the Head Start-Trauma Smart program In 2008, RWJF convened the Commission to Build a Healthier America to identify ways to improve health for all. The Commission reconvened last year and releasedrecommendations in January to build on its initial work. After hearing from some of the nation’s leading experts on early childhood issues, the Commission called for prioritizing investments in our youngest children to improve health. As the Foundation refocuses its efforts to build a Culture of Health, we recognize that children should have the opportunity to grow up healthy regardless of where they live or their financial circumstances. To achieve this, we must address the root causes of violence, promote good mental well-being, and build resilience to adversity, trauma, and stress.
