CHILDHOOD TRAUMA: Focusing on Solutions

Learning objectives:
1. Participants will be able to take effective steps to ensure the enforcement of traumatized children's rights under the Americans With Disabilities Act with regard to children's participation in legal proceedings.
2. Participants will be able to identify types of trauma that cause toxic stress and identify behaviors that result from trauma.
3. Participants in this workshop will learn about adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), their short- and long-term consequences on physical health, mental health and social health, and how they can be passed from generation to generation.
4. Participants well be able to explain how resilience research is beginning to provide some pathways to preventing and reducing the effects of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs).
5. Participants will be able to explain how the trauma of adverse childhood experiences result in toxic stress that damages children’s developing brains, and how this affects their behavior.
6. Participants will learn about how schools are integrating trauma-informed practices, including changing teacher behavior, classroom management and school systems.
7. Participants will learn how Trauma Informed practices are used for Family Reunification in Yolo County.
8. Participants will learn how the Yolo County Foster and Kinship care program is implementing Trauma Informed practices.
9. Participants will learn how Trauma Informed practices can reduce recidivism of troubled youth.
