This full-day workshop will introduce Early Childhood and Family Service Professionals to the language, values, and skills needed to begin providing trauma informed instruction and service to children and families. Topics covered include: Definitions of trauma, psychological trauma, vicarious trauma and trauma informed care How trauma affects early childhood development Normal brain development and the impact of trauma on brain development Signs and symptoms of trauma in young children Techniques for creating safety for children exposed to trauma. The second half of the day offers specific strategies for Early Childhood Professionals working with children who have experienced trauma. Focusing on supporting resiliency by using a skills framework called CAPPD , the afternoon will focus on practical skills and strategies for supporting all children with sensitivity, awareness, and compassion.
