Dr. Roderick Logan and Christian Family Care are presenting “Counting the Cost," in support of parents who are adopting and providing permanency for at-risk children.
“Counting the Cost” provides insight and training for these special caregivers, helping them to achieve an optimum, stable, and secure home life. Critical factors such developmental trauma, time in care, transitions, and behavioral health play a major role in the wellness of any adopting family. A child’s journey toward resilience does not happen in an isolated capsule, but can only take place in a safe, nurturing, and attentive home. As such, the home becomes the battleground where healing and resistance to healing take place.
"Counting the Cost" is a designed with parents in mind and serves by enumerating specific cost factors that all too frequently have led families to disrupt. Twenty pragmatic cost factors are identified. Twenty questions every parent should be asking themselves before committing to a long-term placement or adoption. The factors and questions come from real-life situations. They are not presented to instill fear, but to inform each parent or would-be parent’s decision making. Our goal is that every parent would stop – for a moment – and take a sober and honest look at the costs of adopting a traumatized child.
