Program Outline & Objectives
1) Describe the psychobiology of trauma (mind/brain collusion to grab it and hold it)
a) Why some memories are neutral or benign and others are traumatic and painful
b) How benign and painful memories differ affectively and cognitively (session video)
c) PET scan evidence of how benign and painful memories differ neurologically
d) The roles of the amygdala and hippocampus in reaction storage and expression
2) Compare present with absent subsequent flashbacks (PTSD and related complaints)
a) How stimulus and response differ from cause and effect
b) The “mindlessness” of the conditioned response, obvious and subliminal triggers
c) Primary and secondary incidents in sequence by association (session video)
d) Operation of the Traumatic Incident Network, present and absent flashbacks
3) Discuss the prerequisites, process and outcome of traumatic incident resolution
a) Who is and isn’t eligible for the Traumatic Incident Reduction/resolution process
b) Deconstructing traumatic experience: the essential elements of desensitization
c) Through the arousal curve: start to peak stress to resolution (session audio/video)
d) What actual resolution looks like from the outside/feels like on the inside (video)
Attendance at this program provides licensed mental health professionals with three American Psychological Association (APA) CE credits through Applied Metapsychology International (AMI). AMI is approved by the APA to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. AMI maintains responsibility for this program and its content. We've had no reports, over the years, of any problems in this connection in any of Florida's psych- or counseling-related licensure categories, CSW included. We offer the national organization's credits, because they're honored by the most licensing bodies in the most states these days.
