Please join us for the release of the School Discipline Consensus Report: Strategies from the Field to Keep Students Engaged in School and Out of the Juvenile Justice System. This is one of three national release events taking place the week of June 2 that will underscore the important role that states and local communities can play as change agents on these issues.
Over the past few years, multidisciplinary advisory groups composed of hundreds of stakeholders, including a number of California policymakers and practitioners, worked with project staff to identify key issues related to academic success, juvenile justice concerns, and safe and engaging learning environments. The resulting report provides recommendations for local and state government officials, educators, and community leaders to help reduce the number of youth removed from the classroom for disciplinary reasons, improve conditions for learning for all students and prevent children from engaging with the juvenile justice system. This event provides an opportunity to bring together leaders and stakeholders from education, justice, health, law enforcement, and child welfare across the state to discuss ways to improve school discipline and create safe, welcoming learning environments that help all students succeed.
Speakers include:
- LA Unified Superintendent John Deasy
- Vallejo City Unified Superintendent Ramona Bishop
- Fresno Superintendent Michael Hanson
- Mack Jenkins, Chief, San Diego County Probation
- LA Superior Court Judge Donna Groman
- CADRE President Maisie Chin
This event will also be livestreamed, and more information on how to access this streaming will be sent shortly. We hope that you are able to participate!
